Chapter Twelve

The next morning, I was standing outside, taking in the Georgia sun, when Ramel’s door opened. He and the girl were still entangled in a passionate lip-lock as they stumbled out and over to her car. Strawberry’s long hair was all over her head, and her clothes were disheveled.

“Get a room!” I said, only half-joking, trying to alert them to my presence. That broke up the embrace, but before they could respond, Uncle Malik stumbled out with his tongue down some other girl’s throat. She was thirty at best and stunning. Malik had a handful of her ass gripped tight as they fell against his car.

“The fuck?” I spat at the public display of affection. Really, I was just mad ‘cause I ain’t had none. I shoulda bagged me a bitch too, or called Pinky or something.

“My bad, Dre,” Unc said after extracting his tongue and freeing her ass cheek. “This my people,” he said to the pretty lady, waving toward us.

“A-yo, Unc, we late. Let Strawberry drop your friend off so we can handle our business,” Ramel said sternly. Even though he was partly to blame, I still loved it when he took charge. That shit was sexy.

“A’ight. That’s what’s up,” Malik agreed. “Go with her, and I’ma hit you later.”

“Okaaayyy,” she sang sweetly and made her way over to Strawberry’s car.

Both men blew half-hearted kisses as the chicks pulled off.

Malik’s friend rolled her window down and stuck her head out as they drove away. “You still ain’t tell me your name!” she called..

“Yeah, I know.” Unc chuckled and waved goodbye.

“You stupid, Unc.” Ramel laughed as we all followed his uncle into his room.

“See you caught too.” Malik nodded. “How ‘bout you, Dre? You get some pussy too?”

“Fuck you, Malik!” I replied.

I was so glad to dress like myself when we went to make the gun buy. My pistol was tucked comfortably in my holster at the small of my back. My Tims were tied tightly in case shit popped off.

The only thing in life more dangerous than selling guns is buying them. After all, you’re taking tens of thousands of dollars to a bunch of armed strangers.

Big Shawn wasn’t exactly a stranger—not to Malik anyway. They’d actually known each other for most of their lives. They even lived together for a year, when he was on the run from New York.

“Nephew, I ever tell you how much pussy me and Bigs used to get?” Malik asked animatedly as he drove.

“Like, a thousand times.” Ra sighed loudly. “Pussy parade. I know.”

“Don’t let me find out you a hater.” Malik laughed.

We pulled into an upscale apartment complex off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. After being cleared by security, we navigated the parking lot, following the signs to his apartment. We parked in a lot full of cars, fifty grand or better. It was a car thiefs heaven, all those expensive cars in one place. Unc smiled at the convertible six with vanity New York plates reading BIGS. Only down south could you even blink with your top let down.
